Jimmy Kimmel apologizes after receiving backlash for Emmy Bit

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel was responding to the backlash he received for appearing at the 74th Emmy Awards.
During an episode of his show Wednesday night, Kimmel spoke with Abbott Elementary creator and writer Quinta Brunson, who won the award for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.
He apologized a bit during the event when he was dragged onto the stage and stayed on the floor by the microphone for the entire duration of Brunson’s acceptance speech.
“It was a silly comedy that we thought would be funny. I lost and then I drank too much and then got dragged onto the stage,” Kimmel said.
He continued, “People were upset and said I stole the moment from you. Maybe I did and I’m very sorry if I did.

Kimmel explained, “I’m really sorry I did that and the last thing I ever want to do is upset you for thinking of you so much. I think you know that. I hope you know that.”
Brunson replied, “Well Jimmy, let me just say thank you. It’s very kind of you to say that.”
She added, “I was honestly in such a moment having a good time like I won my first Emmy! I was really happy up there and I was wrapped up in the moment and having a good time.”

Brunson was previously asked about the moment by Los Angeles Times reporter Ashley Lee.
“It didn’t bother me that much. I consider him one of the comedy godfathers. I don’t know – tomorrow I might be mad at him. I’ll be on his show on Wednesday, I could punch him in the face. We’ll see,” Brunson said.
Kimmel also praised Brunson after the award ceremony.
“She’s so incredibly talented and I saw her pilot before it came out on ABC and I wrote to her. I said, ‘I don’t know how we got this, but congratulations. You made a pilot that any network would be happy to see,'” Kimmel said.
