Over the years, Johnny Depp’s children have always been at the center of his thoughts – whether he was busy playing the swashbuckling Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean or after his divorce from headlines Aquaman Stern, Amber Heard.
The Golden Globe-winning actor, also known for his roles in Fantastic Beasts Franchise, Edward with the scissor hands and the 2005 remake Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, shares two children with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, with whom he dated from 1998 to 2012. Depp has often spoken affectionately about his children in the past. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, the actor revealed, “My kids are told they’re loved 75 times a day. One thing I know is they feel loved and safe and happy and needed and necessary and a part of something.”
Depp has also expressed his desire to make his kids proud: “I’m just an actor, and if I can leave behind something that my kids will be proud of, then that’s what I want,” he said in 2009 to the The Daily Telegraph newspaper added at the time, “I don’t want my children to be embarrassed by anything I’ve done.” But over a decade later, the actor found himself inevitably in exactly that position when actress Amber Heard accused him of physical and verbal abuse during their marriage.
Heard, who married Depp in 2015 after several years of dating, filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order against the actor in 2016. The divorce was finalized in 2017 after the former couple reached an out-of-court settlement that gave Heard $7 million and donated to charity. The following year, however, Heard wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post, where she wrote about her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence. During Pineapple Express The actress didn’t mention Depp by name in the article, the clear consensus being that her article was about their relationship. Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard in the United States, alleging that Heard’s allegations were false and defamatory. The actor also sued the publishers of the British newspaper The sun in a related defamation lawsuit after the newspaper published an article calling him a “wife beater”. However, British courts ruled that Depp lost that case in November 2020.
During his 2022 US defamation trial, Depp expressed a desire to “clear his name” — not only for himself, but for his two children as well. “It was a complete shock,” Depp said during his testimony, reflecting on Heard’s allegations. “It just didn’t have to go in that direction as nothing like this had ever happened before. There were fights and things like that in the relationship, but I myself never got as far as hitting Ms. Heard in any way, nor have I ever hit a woman in my life.”
“News of her allegations had kind of permeated the industry and then made its way through the media, and social media became a pretty global, shall we say, ‘fact’ if you will,” Depp added during his testimony. “Knowing there was nothing wrong with that, I felt compelled to stand up not just for myself but for my children in this case.” Depp continued, “It just kept multiplying, it just kept getting bigger and bigger,” insisting, “I wanted to rid my kids of this horrible thing they had to read about their father, which wasn’t true.”

In the years since, Lily-Rose has starred in a number of films, including period dramas like 2016’s The dancer, in which she played Isadora Duncan, and 2019 The king, where she starred alongside her then-boyfriend Timothee Chalamet. Aside from her acting achievements on screen, Lily-Rose has also made a name for herself as a model, collaborating with brands like Chanel over the years.

The model went on to neither confirm nor deny if she had any plans to work with her father in the future: “Never say never,” she offered at the time.
For his part, Depp has always expressed a special fondness for his firstborn. “Lily is really together, she’s a smart kid and one of the smartest people I’ve ever met,” he told the Daily Mail in 2015. “Whatever she does, if she needs advice, I’m there for her . Jack Depp is Johnny Depp’s youngest child and only son with Vanessa Paradis. Jack, who was born John Christopher Depp II on April 9, 2002, isn’t nearly as much in the spotlight as his older sister Lily-Rose. However, on the rare occasions that he is spotted, Jack is his father’s son, as he bears a striking resemblance to his father.
Although Jack isn’t following in his father’s footsteps as an actor, he does have his own special talents. “My boy Jack has always been a very talented draftsman,” Johnny told dem Filipino Daily Inquirer 2014. “He draws really super well. He also plays music very well. He has a good feel for that. Aside from school plays and such, he has shown no desire to be an actor. Furious.”
Four years later, Johnny expressed his sympathy for his son as he faced a public scrutiny after Amber Heard first made allegations of domestic violence against his father. “I’m sure it wasn’t easy for my 14-year-old boy to go to school; You know what I mean?” that Pirates of the Caribbean Alum told GQ in 2018. “People were like, ‘Hey, look at this magazine, man. What, your dad beats up chicks or something?’ Why did he have to go through this? Why did my daughter have to go through this?” Depp questioned at the time.
