HGTV star Jonathan Scott shared one of his design secrets in a behind-the-scenes video posted on his Instagram. The “Property Brothers” contractor answered a question from a fan in the video on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
The fan, @123bluejumper, asked Scott why he often opens the front door of a house he’s renovating straight into the living room. Scott wrote in the Instagram caption, “I try to design homes that have a welcoming feel at the entrance, even when there’s no space for it. Then let’s get creative! #TipTuesdays.”
Scott said he prefers to have a home that’s open-plan into a living area rather than a kitchen
Jonathan Scott said in the #TipTuesdays video: “Well I think the simple answer is that many homes don’t have the ability to accommodate a full formal front entry. But you have to find a way to make it feel comfortable and casual. I would prefer a house to open up into a living area rather than opening straight up into the kitchen.”
Scott added, “There have been some homes where there isn’t an option, and through the front door you go in and you’re in the kitchen. This is my last resort. Anytime we can squeeze in something that feels like an entryway where you can have a bench and some hooks and some storage, that’s always my favorite option.”
A fan replied to the video, “An inviting and functional entrance area is good design, anything else is not. My own home has no official entrance or foyer. With furniture and interior design we create one.” Others Added fan“I love an entry with a chest, with a lamp on it, and a mirror over the chest.”
Adding a tip of their own, another Property Brothers fan wrote, “When my front door opens, it comes very close to the wall in front. But I wanted a little table or shelf to put it there and turn on a lamp, some Nicnacs. I also like to leave my front door open and the storm door locked to make my tiny entryway bright and inviting. But I only had 8 3/4 inches of clearance after the door swung in. I found a toilet rim shelf, just used the shelf top with a small cupboard area, added store bought legs so it could be off the floor, and it was only 8 inches deep. It works really well.”
Scott and his brother helped Wilmer Valderrama remodel his friend’s unfinished garage in the latest episode of Celebrity IOU
Jonathan Scott also recently took a behind-the-scenes look at the Season 3 episode of Celebrity IOU, which aired Monday night with actor Wilmer Valderrama. Scott wrote in the caption of the photo: “Talk about an amazing best friend! We had so much fun turning this unfinished garage into a fabulous flexible space on tonight’s episode of #CelebIOU with @wilmervalderrama.”
The Scott twins helped Valderrama remodel the garage of his friend of over 20 years, Tadao Salima. Valderrama wrote on Instagram“Thank you @propertybrothers for letting two grown men get sentimental… we have no regrets.”
