Speaking of The Done Deal ShowCBS journalist Ben Jacobs has spoken out about Lisandro Martinez amid ongoing transfer speculation.

The Argentine defender has been the subject of interest at both Manchester United and Arsenal and it has increased in the last 24 hours rumours that Martinez will be on his way to Old Trafford.

However, according to Jacobs, Arsenal are clearly the frontrunners for the defender’s signature after making two bids for the Ajax ace.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Martinez won’t come cheap as Jacobs say it will take a fee in excess of £40m to sign the 24-year-old.

what was said

Jacobs shared what he knows about Martinez.

“My understanding with this deal is Arsenal are still the front runners, they will have to pay upwards of £40m, probably more mid-40s with extra add-ons so it won’t be cheap,” Jacobs said .

“But Arsenal sources who spoke to them, despite having the last update 48 hours ago, was that they are working on it, they are confident, they hope to make another offer and they believe they can reach an agreement to take this deal to the point where they can talk to the player.

more appealing

Arsenal appear to be leading Manchester United in this race and it’s not hard to see why the Emirates would be the more attractive target for the Argentine at the moment.

Mikel Arteta’s project is developing well while Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United still appear to be in disarray behind the scenes.

Consider that the Red Devils’ defensive partnership of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane can be difficult to penetrate and you can understand why Martinez is more inclined to join Arsenal than United.
