Julio Rodriguez collected four goals and that Seattle Mariners took advantage of a rare mistake by Maikel Garcia to get past the host Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Wednesday.
The eighth set was 4-4 when Seattle’s Dylan Moore took the lead with a short-hop grounder to third base. Garcia failed to play the backhand, his first mistake in 28 games.
Moore took second place and finally scored a goal (0-1) against Dylan Coleman after a foul ball sacrifice by Teoscar Hernandez. The game was contested but allowed by Kansas City.
sailors Starter Luis Castillo (9-7) gave up four runs with nine hits in seven innings. He knocked out three and left one.
Seattle built up an early lead against royals Opener James McArthur hit a three-pointer in the first three, highlighted by Cal Raleigh’s first-pitch home run with two runs into the right field stand.
Garcia doubled on the first throw when he started at the end of the first throw and then scored with Michael Massey’s Sacrifice Fly. Garcia extended his hitting streak to 18 games, hitting .338 (25 of 74).
Rodriguez hit an RBI single right in the second inning to give Seattle a 4-1 lead. Later in the game he stole two bases and his fourth hit made for an insurance run in the ninth inning.
Kansas City responded with a single hit in each of the first three innings, reducing the deficit to 4-3.
Drew Waters opened the second inning with a leadoff triple and finished with Kyle Isbel’s sacrifice flight.
MJ Melendez’ double beat Salvador Perez in the third set. Melendez had three of them royals‘ 10 hits.
Hits from Melendez and Matt Beaty and a walk to Waters loaded the bases in the sixth before Nelson Velazquez’s double-play grounder leveled the game 4-4.
royals Bulk innings pitcher Alec Marsh struggled through five innings and facilitated a four-hit run. He walked five despite neither of those batters scoring, and he batted six.
Velazquez took the lead in the ninth game with a solo home run into left field, but Seattle right-hander Matt Brash recovered and ended the game with his third save.
The royals, who lost 7-0 with the runners in goal position, has lost eight of his last eleven games. The sailors picked up their second straight win and are looking to win the four-game series on Thursday afternoon.
