Terrifying toilet stories, take two!

Fans of the dark, toilet-based fantasy anime Hanako-kun have received a surprise announcement courtesy of official twitter accountunveiling a “reboot project” that’s getting the community buzzing.

Originally airing in 2020, Hanako-kun in the toilet follows the exploits of the titular haunting as he befriends schoolgirl Nene Yashiro when she visits his soul’s resting place in the bathroom. The pair encounters various other supernatural entities while also confronting overzealous exorcists and Hanako’s own dark past.

A seven-day countdown on the Twitter account heralded the arrival of something exciting, and while most assumed a second season was on the way, we were instead treated to a special video teasing the impending “reboot.”

Further details, such as a full cast list and expected air dates, or the exact nature of the project itself are not yet known. Most interpret the phrase “reboot” to indicate a reboot of the first season, allowing the team to flesh out manga arcs previously unexplored in the 2020 release.

The first season of toilet-goer Hanako-kun has no shortage of fans, currently garnering a healthy score of 7.85 out of 10 on MyAnimeList from over 250,000 voters. This is good enough to place it just outside the top 800 (out of over 13,000 anime entries listed) and within the top 400 for popularity based on score.

The scale of this reboot will surely be intriguing, as it was already beyond charming. Stay tuned to Twinfinite here to learn more about the cheeky Specter and everyone’s favorite Daikon Queen.
