speaking in his Pre-game press conferenceJurgen Klopp has spoken out about Joe Gomez after he was down with an injury midweek against Southampton.
The defender went down with what appeared to be an ankle problem and there were fears his season would be over after retiring injured at St Mary’s.
However, according to Klopp, Gomez is feeling good and while the Reds are still awaiting some scan results, the German doesn’t expect Gomez to be on the sidelines for long.
what was said
Klopp gave an update on Gomez.
“First of all good news, yesterday we had another scan but after the game he and we thought, after the game we were lucky. It was a solid knock, but nothing happened. It was the leg he was injured in so I understand why everyone was concerned, I was until I saw Joe’s face in the dressing room where we know our bodies best. The result of the scan is not yet available, but we don’t expect anything else,” said Klopp.
The fact that Gomez is fit and available is unlikely to affect Klopp’s team selection in the last two games. After all, he’s not a regular starter these days, but it’s still nice to hear he’s not injured.
If there are more injuries like Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate or Trent Alexander-Arnold, Klopp can have peace of mind knowing he has a player as talented as Gomez ready to step in for them.
Injuries derailed Liverpool’s campaign last time out but it looks like they’re going into their last two games in fairly good health.
