Kansas coach Bill Self hospitalized, will miss Big 12 tournament opener

Bill Self, whose Kansas team is the defending men’s champion, will miss Thursday’s quarterfinals of his team’s Big 12 tournament after being hospitalized with an illness, the school announced.

“Self is doing well and is being very well cared for by the University of Kansas health care system,” the school said in a statement, without giving further details about the 60-year-old coach’s illness or condition.
