Kansas police fatally shoot man they say stabbed officers

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) – Police in a Kansas City suburb shot dead a man and reportedly stabbed two officers after a traffic stop.

Police in Olathe, Kansas pulled over a car just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Joel Yeldell said in a news release. A separate vehicle stopped during the stop. This driver came out with a knife and approached the officers, who both shot him.

The 58-year-old man died at the scene of the accident. His name was not published. The officers were not injured.

An interagency team formed to investigate police shootings in the Kansas City area is investigating. Officials are on administrative leave pending the outcome.
