Kate Ritchie reveals professional help got her life back on track after drunk driving charges

Kate Ritchie has been reflecting on her decision to seek professional help following her shock drink charges in August.

In December, Daily Mail Australia broke the news that Ritchie had entered an exclusive private psychiatric facility in Sydney to be treated for her alcohol addiction.

The former Home And Away star, 44, told The Sunday Telegraph this weekend that after struggling with several personal challenges last year, she decided it was time to seek help.

“It took a long time. I sought professional help, the help I needed. Sometimes enough is enough,” she said.

“Life has presented me with challenges over the last few years, but I am not alone in this. I was lucky enough to be able to take my time.

“I’ve gained clarity and that’s why I feel so good to come back now,” she added.

Kate’s new life comes ahead of her new radio host gig, which begins Monday on Nova’s new Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie Breakfast Show.

“I just wanted to be a better version of myself for myself and my family. I’ll come back clear and refreshed.’

In October, Kate announced she was withdrawing from the Kate, Tim and Joel show in October, before announcing that she would be undergoing treatment at an exclusive Sydney rehab clinic.

In December, she said in a statement that the past year has been challenging and stressful, leading to an “unhealthy addiction to alcohol.”

Ritchie returned a reading of 0.06 – just above the legal limit – when she was pulled over by police for a random breath test in her station wagon in Pagewood at 2.45pm on August 22.

She was fined $600, banned from driving for three months, and apologized on Instagram.

“Recently I did a random breath test,” she wrote. “Although it was a low level, the test was positive.

“I made a bad decision and there is no doubt that I understand the seriousness of my actions. I’m really sorry.’
