Katie Maloney puts friendship with Tom Schwartz on hold amid VPR drama

Vanderpump Rules stars are Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix.

Katie Maloney has said she no longer speaks to her ex-husband Tom Schwartz regularly. The “Vanderpump Rules” star gave an update on her relationship with the Schwartz & Sandy owner during a March 15, 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

After host Andy Cohen asked Maloney if she called Schwartz immediately after the news broke about Tom Sandoval’s affair with Raquel Leviss, Maloney admitted she didn’t.

“We put our friendship on hold, so I don’t really like that [calling him],” She said. “[Our relationship] it’s all about the dogs so I didn’t hit him and he didn’t hit me.

After announcing their divorce in March 2022, Maloney and Schwartz vowed to remain close friends. “We’re still hanging out,” Schwartz said during an August 2022 performance Maloney’s You’ll Love Me Podcast. “We’re still buddies, we still look at each other. I’m glad we’re still around.”

Elsewhere on “See What Happens Live” Maloney was asked a few weeks earlier about her ex-husband’s appearance with Sandoval at the Bravo Chatfest. Cohen noted that Schwartz appeared to check with Sandoval before answering any questions.

“Pathetic,” Maloney said of her ex’s behavior. “I texted him right after and said, ‘You were embarrassed. You can’t keep your fingers out of your mouth.’”

“I felt like you were babysitting,” Maloney told Cohen. “I mean, he’s 40. He’s 40, everyone. That’s not cute. Anyone who thinks he’s cute…”

Maloney also responded to Schwartz’s impromptu interview with TMZ after the outlet caught up with him days after the scandal broke at the Los Angeles airport. Speaking willingly to the paparazzi, Schwartz said first, “I wish we could meet under more favorable circumstances. Last time it was my divorce and now it’s Scandoval.”

Schwartz called the cheating scandal “sad” and said Sandoval’s former girlfriend Ariana Madix has a “really good support system.” He also asked if he was a “pawn” in Sandoval and Leviss’ play, and even asked the interviewer for her opinion on the drama.

Speaking on “Watch What Happens Live,” Maloney said she texted Schwartz immediately after the TMZ video was posted, asking him, “Have you ever heard of ‘no comment’?” She revealed she told him , after explaining that he was “so tired” when approached by the pap: “You said the word ‘auspicious’. You weren’t tired!’”

One of the main reasons the scandal came as such a shock was that the original storyline centered on Levis’s flirtatious relationship with Schwartz. Now many fans — and even the “Vanderpump Rules” cast members — want to know if Sandoval and Leviss pushed that narrative to distract from their own affair.

maloney narrated “See What Happens Live” Hostess Cohen that she’s not sure how much Schwartz knew or when he found out about his best friend’s affair with the former pageant queen.

“I like, yeah, part of me thinks he was cheated on… by both of them,” Maloney said. “I do not know exactly [when he found out].”

When asked what she would answer if she found out that Schwartz knew about the affair and decided to protect Sandoval, she replied, “I would set him on fire.”
