A front-runner at the start of the 20th season of ABC’s “American Idol,” Kenedi Anderson was awarded a platinum ticket by judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, giving her an edge over the other contestants during Hollywood Week.

Anderson left the competition after competing in the top 24 episode, which prevented her from making the top 20.

During the Top 24 episode aired on Monday, April 11, 2022, Anderson was spotted performing Christina Perri’s “Human.”

Following her performance, Ryan Seacrest appeared virtually and informed viewers that she was no longer competing due to “personal reasons”.

Anderson dropped out of the competition

Anderson took to Instagram to announce that she had left the show.

“Due to personal reasons I can’t continue on ‘American Idol,'” she wrote. “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary. I’m so grateful to American Idol, the judges, the producers, the amazing contestants and all the fans who supported me.”

She added, “Thank you for giving me such an amazing opportunity to share my voice, pursue my dreams, find so much joy and happiness in what I love, and make lifelong friends in the process.”

Some fans took to the comments section to let Anderson know they support her.

“Omg no, I was just about to vote for you.” one person wrote. “I hope everything is alright.”

Another commented, “I will support you to the end! I wish you the best of luck for the future.”

Fans were sad to see Anderson go

Fans had speculated for weeks about Anderson’s exit from the competition. After the Hollywood Duet Challenge episode aired on April 3, 2022, some fans noticed that the contestant’s duet was missing from both social media and YouTube, leading them to believe that one of the contestants may have quit or was asked to leave American Idol. ”

Fans were still upset when she officially left the competition as they thought she was one of the front runners to win.

“Um… so why did my real Barbie Ms. Kenedi exit!?” one person tweeted. “She had such a beautiful voice and was one of my absolute favorites.”

Another person tweeted, “I’m sad you just retired from #AmericanIdol, Kenedi. But your performance in Hawaii was great!!! Despite that you are a great singer and should get a record deal in the future!!!”

Many thought she was a sure bet to win.

“It’s so crazy to me because Kenedi would have 100% won…now I cheer for Leah Marlene, Ava, Nicole and Emyrson #americanidol.” reads a tweet.

Another tweet reads, “What a blow to @AmericanIdol that Kenedi was eliminated from the competition. She’s the kind of talent music executives dream of — a total package. Certainly there is an offer on the table that prompted the departure. Artists literally look at her with envy and know she’s the next #americanidol.”

A Comment on Instagram reads, “I literally gasped. I’m so sad. All the best for you.”

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time on ABC.
