Klopp has yet again snubbed a £35m Liverpool player following interest from Newcastle in January

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may be better off leaving the club after being snubbed again on Wednesday night.

The Reds host Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Liverpool led 3-1 from the first leg, clinched a 3-3 draw at Anfield and had a bit of a late scare but got away with it.

Jurgen Klopp opted for a page rotation. Players like Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all remained on the bench.

That meant chances for fringe players in Liverpool’s starting XI – but still no Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner started in Liverpool midfield. Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t even come off the bench.

Milner is out of contract this summer and was still picked ahead of Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Looking at the 28-year-old’s final minutes paints a pretty telling picture.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not played a minute in the Premier League since beating Norwich City 3-1 on 19 February.

not one.

His only minutes in the FA Cup have passed, meaning Klopp won’t even pick him in the Champions League either.

Almost five years after joining Liverpool in a huge £35m dealthe writing seems to be on the wall for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It’s clear that Klopp simply prefers other midfielders at the moment; Fabinho, Henderson, Thiago, Keita, Milner, Curtis Jones.

With Luis Diaz on board, Oxlade-Chamberlain has no chance of fielding Liverpool’s front three either.

Quite simply, last night’s snub – with Liverpool players changing – should spell the end for Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool.

Oxlade-Chamberlain for Newcastle?

The Times recently reported that Newcastle wanted to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain in January and that move could make sense this summer.

Newcastle may give Oxlade-Chamberlain a bigger role, may have the cash to spend on a deal and girlfriend Perrie Edwards hails from South Shields.

With no sign of Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Premier League for almost two months, Oxlade-Chamberlain simply needs to make a move – and going to Newcastle might not be the worst idea.
