Kolo Toure admits ‘huge surprise’ at Leeds 2021 ‘incredible’ target to join PL rivals

Kolo Toure had admitted it came as a “huge surprise” to him that Leeds United target for 2021 Maxwel Cornet had moved to Burnley last summer.

The Leicester City manager has explained that Cornet has been ‘amazing’ at Turf Moor this season. as he told Sky Sports Football.

Despite playing for a defensive and relegation-threatened Burnley side, Cornet has scored six Premier League goals in 17 games.

In the summer, Leeds tried to lure the Ivory Coast star in their direction but instead he moved to Burnley.

Toure has brought out his compatriot and the impact he has made since joining the Premier League.

“He was great,” said Toure. “Can’t believe it. I saw him, he scored a great goal against us (Leicester City).

“Technically, he’s a very good player. Seeing him go to Burnley was a big surprise to me.

“But he did incredible things there because he shows great quality and he scores goals.”

Given the impact someone like Raphinha has had on this side of Leeds, it just feels like Cornet would have ripped it up just as much.

The style of play under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds compared to what Sean Dyche is producing is chalk and cheese.

Cornet would have been a perfect fit under Bielsa and it’s perhaps one of the mistakes the club made in not beefing up their options.

Perhaps Bielsa would still be in charge because while no one could have foreseen her injuries, everyone knew there was a need to strengthen this already thin squad.
