Kylie Minogue ‘believes she was duped’ to appear in ‘final’ episode of Neighbors

It was the springboard that got their hugely successful career rolling, and when they announced last year that Neighbors would be axed after 37 years, the show’s stars loyally flocked back to Ramsay Street for a stellar finale.

But now some are furious after it was revealed the Australian soap is set to be resurrected at streaming giant Amazon.

Hollywood actor Guy Pearce, who returned for the final three episodes before Channel 5 pulled the plug on the show, was the first to attack production bosses.

The 55-year-old, who is fondly remembered for his role as brooding heartthrob Mike Young, teased of the supposed finale: “It’s hard to watch, isn’t it?

“Knowing we’ll never see another episode? A painful reminder that the things we love can be snatched away, never to return.

“Unless Amazon saves the day and makes our finale look like a pretty expensive exercise.”

He added: “I don’t want to say it’s a waste of time. But still.’

Meanwhile, sources in Melbourne, where Neighbors was filmed, have revealed that Kylie Minogue – whose career began playing mechanic Charlene Robinson between 1986 and 1988 – also felt she was “tricked” into returning.

One told the Mail on Sunday: “Kylie seems to be a little shaky about all this. It’s about why they and others bothered to go back. She and the others were told it was the end.

“She knows what she owes neighbors and she always would have, but it all seems a little confusing.”

Ms Minogue, 54, returned for the final episode last July alongside Jason Donovan, who played her husband Scott.

Another former Ramsay Street actress, Margot Robbie, who will soon star in the movie Barbie, directed a video for the Los Angeles episode.

She attempted to change her schedule so she could travel to Australia to film, but when that proved impossible, she sent 37 bottles of champagne – one for each year the show aired.

The source added: “Imagine if Margot managed to wield it so she could travel from Hollywood to Melbourne and it came back after all? She would have been angry.”

Other Neighbors veterans who appeared in last year’s finals were Natalie Imbruglia and Holly Valance.

Last year it was announced that Neighbors would no longer be filmed after Channel 5 and production company Fremantle failed to reach a new agreement.

However, last month it was confirmed that Amazon Freevee would be bringing the show back.
