Lala Kent opens up about the ‘hardest’ thing she’s ever done

“Vanderpump Rules” star Lala Kent in a new interview with about her sobriety as a mom and how her father’s death eventually led to her being sober E! news in honor of National Recovery Month.

Kent’s father died in April 2018, persons reported, and Kent explained that she began drinking non-stop to deal with her grief. “That’s how I got by,” she told E! News. “When I really got into binge drinking because I think it was three or four days in a row, I just woke up feeling out of control, not knowing what I was doing, just the guilt and the shame and that Was the moment I said I’m taking my life back I don’t live like this a day anymore.”

Now that she’s celebrating three years and 11 months of sobriety, the ‘Vanderpump Rules’ star said she knows her dad is “just beaming up there.” She added: “Even though I miss him so much, he’s working for me up there. The blessings that have come into my life since my father left, I will say that I thank him quite often.”

Kent spoke about her sobriety journey and what it means to be a mom

Kent told the publication that her sobriety as the mother of 17-month-old Ocean is all the more important because she’s able to be a lot more present than she otherwise would have been. “Sobriety when it comes to being a mom,” she shared. “I’m present in every single moment and I love that part of my sobriety.” She added:

The fact that my child will never see me in a different state, that’s just amazing… I’m sitting here and I just remember her hands or the first time we went to the BBQ and she got in the pool… I remember to every detail.

Kent said she hopes her sobriety can be a great life lesson for Ocean as she gets older and tells E! news“I hope that as she gets older, she’ll look at me and realize that we have all the power in the world we can take.” She continued, “If you want something, you can most certainly get it… The hardest thing, what i have ever done in my life is the proudest thing i have ever done and i hope that when she grows up she will see that she can really do anything in the whole world.”

Being sober also changed Kent’s approach to filming Vanderpump Rules

Kent said sobriety has also made her more alert when filming VPR. She explained that she listens first and doesn’t “rush in” so quickly. E! news wrote.

“I constantly have this internal struggle because my work area doesn’t represent what my program represents,” she shared. “I go into that environment and I speak my truth, but at the same time I go into those spaces that are about becoming a better person. It’s a conflict.”

Praising her co-stars Stassi Schroeder, Katie Maloney and Scheana Marie, Kent said that “these three have been amazing since I started this journey.”
