Last picture of the nurse who was killed with aunt and driver after a tragic fall from a treacherous road

The latest picture of a 28-year-old nurse who died along with her aunt and driver in a tragic car accident in Colorado has been revealed after the car skidded off a notoriously dangerous mountain road and plummeted hundreds of feet.

Tourists Diana Robles, 28, and Ofelia Figueroa-Perez, 60, of Yuma, Ariz., and hired driver Don Fehd, 72, all died when their 2022 Jeep Gladiator overran the edge of Ouray County Road 361, also known as Camp Bird Road, crashed around noon on September 12.

Robles was pictured on a nearby gondola just before the fatal crash and reportedly sent the picture to friends before he didn’t reply, causing them to panic and find out the horrific truth.

The Jeep, traveling from the Yankee Boy Basin area toward Ouray, went off the road and immediately fell 100 feet to the ground before rolling 140 feet down a rocky embankment and eventually crashing on its roof near the Canyon Creek bank calm came.

Fehd was in the driver’s seat and was thrown from the vehicle while the bodies of Robles and Figueroa-Perez were still found in their seats, police said.

It was the second fatal accident in the area in a week, killing another Arizona resident and injuring his wife when their SUV suffered a similar disaster near Imogene Pass, the Daily Press reported.

The incident occurred on County Road 361 (Camp Bird Road) near Milepost 3.1 in Ouray County, southwestern Colorado

Robles and Figueroa-Perez, niece and aunt who both worked as nurses at Yuma Regional Medical Center, had gone to the Colorado mountains for a short vacation.

“Words fail us and we are in disbelief,” wrote family member Diana Figueroa on Facebook.

“We know they are in the merciful hands of our Lord, for even as nurses, they have had healing hands in every life they touched.”

Feud was “quirky and genuine” with guests getting into his Jeep, said Jeff Lindberg, the tour company’s owner.

The driver asked the passengers where they were from and exclaimed, “I was from there!” before they could finish their answer.

Robles and Figueroa-Perez had rented the Jeep and Fehd as part of a tour with Colorado West Jeep Rentals and Tours.

According to State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis, alcohol, drugs, weather and speed were not suspected factors in the incident because both customers wore their seat belts.

Ouray County Coroner Colleen Hollenbeck said Robles planned to call a friend to talk about the trip after snapping a picture of the trail, but that call never came.

Instead, the friend frantically called around and then saw social media posts about the crash, which eventually led to her calling and learning of the Hollenbeck deaths.

It is not known whether Fehd was also buckled up.

According to Dangerous Roads, Camp Bird Road is a completely unpaved “narrow, scenic mountain road” and those who venture on it should have “four-wheel drive and not be afraid of heights”.

Hollenbeck said Jeep tours like the ones they do play a crucial role in the region’s economy.

Here is the legendary Imogene Pass, a mountain pass 13,000 feet above sea level — and the second highest motorable pass in Colorado — which Robles reportedly photographed.

“The track requires 100 percent concentration,” say Dangerous Roads, and has a speed limit of 15 mph.

Cathleen Wolff, chaplain and spiritual care manager at Yuma Regional Medical Center, paid tribute to her two lost colleagues.

“Our YRMC family is in shock and colleagues are deeply saddened by the sudden loss,” she said.

“The loss of two beautiful caregivers is a tremendous loss. The pain we feel as an organization is immeasurable.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation, with the Colorado State Patrol soliciting all information from members of the public.
