Latest report of baby’s death after eating formula mentions Cronobacter bacteria

The latest report informing federal health officials that a baby has died after being eaten Abbott Laboratories‘ Baby formula mentions the Cronobacter bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration said.

Cronobacter is the same bacterium that previously sickened at least four other infants between September 2021 and February, including two who died after taking Abbott’s formula. The bacteria occur naturally in the environment and can live in dry, powdered foods. It can be fatal in infants and cause sepsis or meningitis.
