Fans of “The Bachelor” usually see Arie Luyendyk, Jr. and his wife Lauren Burnham Luyendyk sharing happy moments on social media that highlight their day-to-day life with their three children. However, in a recent Instagram post, the couple showed a different side of themselves, and fans have a lot to say about how the couple handled this special goodbye.
For the past few months, Bachelor Nation fans have watched as Arie and Lauren shared videos of their twins Lux and Senna running, their older daughter Alessi celebrating her third birthday and enjoying plenty of travel, family outings and business ventures. On December 1st, however, the “The Bachelor” stars took a different path.
Here’s what you need to know:
The Luyendyks approached the Balenciaga situation in their own way
That shared Instagram post shared by Arie and Lauren was captioned “won’t miss you”. The video uses the “Campfire Song” audio and showed one of The Bachelor stars pulling a pair of Balenciaga shoes from a shelf in the closet. Then the video showed a plastic garbage can on the lawn. As Lauren was holding the shoes with pliers, Arie started a flame and burned the shoes. Lauren threw them in the bin as the flames grew and gave a peace sign as “Bye Balenciaga” was read as the text across the screen. A moment later, the shoes were pulled out again with the tongs and exposed, still burning and thoroughly destroyed.
As The Guardian recently detailed, Balenciaga came under fire for a controversial advertising campaign. The advertisements included teddy bears wrapped in bondage gear and small children holding the bears. There was also an advert with a prop in the background consisting of documents related to child abuse laws. Balenciaga has since apologized and pulled the ads, but for many like Arie and Lauren, the damage has already been done.
The Bachelor fans had a mixed reaction to the video
The “Bye Balenciaga” video that Arie and Lauren created received more than 100,000 likes and 5,700 comments on Instagram. There were some commenters supporting the Luyendyks’ actions, while others pointed out problems they saw in the situation.
“There are things like this or more important that concern your children and you never take a position. It makes this one feel more like clickbait than anything else,” one person wrote.
“You could have donated them to someone in need.” recommended someone else.
“You could have just donated to a charity that actually helps protect victims of child trafficking instead of burning your expensive privileged material items for social media attention and influence.” added another critic.
Reality TV stars Hannah Ann Sluss, Haley Ferguson and Cody Nickson of ‘Big Brother’ and ‘The Amazing Race’ all left comments praising Arie and Lauren. Quite a few fans shared similar feelings.
“If only all influencers would take a stand on such issues. A difference would be made.” written down a supporter.
“Yeah!!!! Thanks for taking a stand! Normally I’m totally against the cancelation culture on both sides, but these are the people we should cancel! Those who want to hurt our kids deserve it.” explained another fan.
