Teen Mom star Leah Messer called her ex-fiancé Jaylan Mobley after the December 6 episode of The Next Chapter aired. Mobley proposed Messer in Costa Rica for their one-year anniversary in September. Two months later, they suddenly broke up, and now fans are learning more details about the intricacies of their relationship.
Messer was frustrated when Mobley said he asked her stepfather, Gary Lee Miller, for his permission to marry. Messer claimed the only people he had to get approval from were their three daughters: 12-year-old twins Ali and Aleeah and 9-year-old Addie.
“NO approval or validation is ever needed when it comes to YOUR life, your LIMITATIONS and what your heart DESIRES. Let this be known and if it is not respected, stand up for yourself.” she tweeted. “If you choose peace, there are many goodbyes.”
Messer implied that Mobley didn’t respect her
Messer then picked her up Instagram storieswhere she implied that she did not want Mobley to ask her stepfather’s permission to marry her.
“I would add that in the dinner scene after the proposal, it was known that no other blessings were needed or mattered, especially if I was opening up to marriage after two failed marriages,” she said.
Messer was married to Corey Simms from October 2010 to June 2011. She and her second husband, Jeremy Calvert, were married from April 2012 to June 2015.
Messer accused Mobley of using Miller.
“I love my family BUT I have a very private relationship with them and preferred to keep it that way as we build better relationships with healthier boundaries,” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “I can portray the scene with my stepfather as a publicity stunt and disrespect at its finest when you asked me before and did it anyway…. Then tell me on camera after making a proposal. SMH.”
“You deserve better, never settle,” added Messer.
Messer said Mobley didn’t need her stepfather’s permission
While they were having dinner during the December 6 episode of “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter,” Messer told her fiancé that all he had to do was ask her daughters if it was okay for them to get married.
“The only three you ever needed consent from would have been my daughters, like you didn’t need his permission,” she told him.
“Let’s focus on this moment, baby. Let’s let this moment sink in,” Mobley told Messer. “I just wanted to do it out of respect.”
Messer wanted Mobley to know he was “the man” in her life, saying her relationship with her mother, Dawn Messer, was also important.
Messer began to open up about her family’s complicated dynamics. “I wish I could walk down the aisle with a dad who would drop me off and all that,” she said.
Mobley interrupted her. “Listen to me, okay,” he said. “Every tradition is different.”
“You do not understand. you are close to your family You have a close-knit family,” Messer shot back.
Mobley said Messer was too delicate.
“They take away too much from what that is,” he said. “You’re concentrating on something I think you’ve always wanted to get rid of. You know, I understand the past and all that stuff. I understand that.”
As Messer continued to argue, he said, “This isn’t the right time… are we done?”
