Leeds United have turned down an opening offer from Barcelona to sign Raphinha this summer but the Camp Nou side remain optimistic about signing the Brazilian winger.

This is acc Sports, who report that the Blaugrana have made a €35m (£29m) offer as Xavi Hernandez targets Ousmane Dembele’s replacement. The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season and will most likely leave Catalonia with Paris Saint-Germain interested.

Barcelona are determined to future-proof their side before Dembele’s contract expires so set about securing Raphinha’s transfer from Leeds. He has cut off all talks with the West Yorkshire team over a new contract and told his agent Deco to secure a move to La Liga.

Raphinha wants to wear the Barcelona shirt next season, two years later £17 million Transfer from Rennes to Leeds. But the Whites have instructed the Blaugrana that they need to trigger his €75m (£62.5m) release clause so Xavi can welcome the nine-goal, three-assist star to Spain.

Barcelona plan new talks with Leeds after Raphinha’s £29m bid was rejected

Barcelona are set to hold further talks with Leeds in the coming weeks to try and negotiate a lower sum for Raphinha’s proposed transfer. The striker’s stance on a move to the Camp Nou and their desire for his arrival gives club bosses confidence that an agreement will be reached.

United will be reluctant to let the seven-cap Dynamo leave Elland Road at the end of the tenure as part of a rebate deal. He is their talisman and has consistently provided the brightest spark this season to keep the West Yorkshire side fighting potential relegation from the Premier League.

But Barcelona are testing Leeds’ resolve as they target his transfer and apparently Raphinha will do the same. UOLdespite Newcastle United making a £35million bid in January, report the striker will not sign a new deal at Elland Road unless the Whites lower his release clause.

The Blaugrana, who are upping their offer for winger Paul Merson, call it ‘incredible’ so could trigger his exit. Leeds will certainly be particularly reluctant to turn down their offers if Jesse Marsch cannot avoid relegation from the top flight and slip back into the Championship.
