Accordingly the athleteLiverpool have beaten Leeds in signing Celtic prodigy Ben Doak in a deal valued at £600,000.
What’s the matter?
Well, Leeds have tried hard to sign the 16-year-old, even offering him better personal terms than Liverpool, according to reports the athlete.
However, Doak has set his sights on making it at Anfield, which is why he happily accepted a lower salary.
Celtic are owed the sum of £600,000 in compensation, although that won’t ease the pain of losing such an exciting talent.
Doak has already done two First-team appearances for the Bhoys when Ange Postecoglou gave him his debut against Dundee United in January.
The teenager was playing in the Old Firm derby clash with Rangers of all places when Celtic tried to persuade him to stay.
Unfortunately for the Hoops, Doak was keen to test himself in England and has now signed for Liverpool.
Ben Doak can thrive at Liverpool
What is admirable about Jürgen Klopp is that he doesn’t care how old you are – for the German, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
The 54-year-old has debuted for Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley, Neco Williams, Tyler Morton, Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold and many others during his time at Anfield.
If Doak – whom Postecoglou described as “fantastic” – catches his eye, he has a good chance of making the first-team like anyone else.
In addition, Klopp will be happy about his commitment.
In particular, the fact that he has accepted a lower salary than he would have been paid at Leeds should stand him in good stead with the Liverpool staff.
Liverpool seems to have created a jewel for themselves.
