Leigh boy among two teenagers accused of Brianna Ghey’s murder

Cheshire Police said the 15-year-old girl from Warrington and the 15-year-old boy from Leigh were charged on Wednesday.

Brianna, aged 16 and from Birchwood in Warrington, Cheshire, was found by members of the public at around 3.13pm on Saturday lying wounded on a path in Linear Park, Culcheth.

A boy and girl, both 15 years old, have been arrested on suspicion of Brianna’s murder.

Detectives were granted an extension of 30 hours to further question the two suspects before the charges were confirmed this morning.

A GoFundMe crowdfunding page set up to help the schoolgirl’s family has surpassed £70,000 in donations just a day after it was set up.

More than 4,500 people from 41 different countries have contributed to the fundraisers, GoFundMe confirmed.

Candlelight vigils organized by members of the transgender community are being held across the country to commemorate the teenager.

Vigils are to be held in cities across the UK in the coming days.

People gathered for a candlelit vigil on College Green in Bristol city center on Tuesday night, while a simultaneous vigil was held at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

In a tribute issued on behalf of her family following Brianna’s death, they said the teen was a “very beloved daughter, granddaughter and little sister.”

The statement continued, “She was a larger than life character who would leave a lasting impression no matter what she encountered.

“Brianna was beautiful, funny and hilarious.

“Brianna was strong, fearless and unique.

“The loss of her young life has left a huge hole in our family and we know the teachers and their friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.”

Several police cars were parked in the area after the incident, and several uniformed officers were patrolling the park.

A large part of the area was cordoned off with barrier tape, and police dogs were also seen at the crime scene.

The principal of Brianna’s school, Birchwood Community High School in Warrington, said they were “shocked and really devastated” by her death.

Some school children, still in their school uniforms, laid flowers at the police line at the entrance to the park on Monday.
