Lewis Hamilton’s worst-ever finish in an F1 race as battles rage on in 2022

Lewis Hamilton’s start to the 2022 season has been a disaster, with Imola particularly pissed – but what has been his worst result in F1 to date?

Chances are Lewis Hamilton won’t win his record-breaking eighth world title in 2022.

The Mercedes W13 went off the pace badly and Hamilton fought his way up to 13th at Imola – while teammate George Russell was fourth.

Hamilton’s Imola weekend was a bit of a disaster, walking away senseless after a terrible weekend when the car struggled.

Team boss Toto Wolff called it “undrivable” on the radio after Hamilton ended up outside the points.

But what is Lewis Hamilton’s worst result in Formula 1? Where’s the lowest he’s finished in a Grand Prix?

Lewis Hamilton worst finish

Well, the worst result Lewis Hamilton has ever had in Formula 1 was a DNF.

He recorded 22 of these from his debut at the 2007 Australian Grand Prix to the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola – 292 starts ago.

If he actually ran at the flag, Lewis Hamilton’s worst results were in 2009.

This year the reigning champion was hampered by an uncompetitive McLaren MP4-24 – the team misjudged the new aero rules.

Hamilton even described how the 2022 Mercedes feels just as bad as the 2009 McLaren.

His worst result so far in Formula 1 was at the 2009 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.

He finished 18th, one lap behind winner Mark Webber.

This was followed by results of ninth, 12th, 13th and 16th at the races in Spain, Monaco, Turkey and Great Britain.

Luckily he won the next race in Hungary.

What about Mercedes?

Hamilton has only finished outside the points once in his Mercedes career.

That happened at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a 15th place finish.

In Baku, he blocked the restart after a red flag in the first corner after accidentally pressing a brake button on the steering wheel.

With just two laps left in the race after the restart, Hamilton was in last place as Sergio Perez won and Hamilton threw away 25 points, eventually losing the title to Max Verstappen, who at eight…
