Not even the subtitles help in deciphering the Togruti language.
Tales of the Jedi is here and Star Wars fans couldn’t be happier; It handles the universe pretty well and introduces viewers to new stories along with an awesome art style. The first season premiered with six episodes, the first being “Life and Death” starring Ahsoka Tano. There seems to be some confusion there what the Togrutas say in Tales of the Jedi: Life and Death at the beginning of the episode.
What does Ahsoka’s father say in Tales of the Jedi: Life and Death?
While the subtitles only indicate that Ahsoka’s father speaks Togruti, we can use the lake’s context clues to deduce that it heralds Ahsoka’s birth. Immediately after speaking a few Togruti words, he calls out, “She’s here! She is there!”
In Tales of the Jedi, the village gathers to see the new baby Ahsoka, and even the village elder pays her a visit to witness her naming ceremony. It’s clearly a special event for no other reason than its existence; Ahsoka’s Force-sensitive nature is not yet known.
One explanation for this is simple: considering how the characters react to Ahsoka’s birth and Togruta’s outlook on life, it’s a sacred moment. We don’t see any other children in the village, so children are either born very slowly or it’s a rare occurrence. Canonically, the Togruta population only numbers in the tens of thousands.
So now you get it what the Togrutas say in Tales of the Jedi: Life and Death. You can hear Ahsoka’s screams just before her father announces to the village that she’s finally here.
