Lilt was sold on eBay for £100 after drinking Coca-Cola axes

Last week, Coca-Cola announced it was discontinuing Lilt and replacing the popular fizzy drink with a new Fanta flavor.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) confirmed the change in a statement, explaining that while the drink’s packaging and logo will be changed, the flavor will be back on shelves, but will instead be known as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit.

Now fans are rushing to eBay to get their hands on the product, with a 500ml bottle of Lilt selling for £100 on the online auction site.

St. Helens Star:

The drink’s description calls it “brand new, unused, unopened and undamaged” and describes the bottle as “very rare”.

CCEP said: “Avid Lilt fans may have noticed a gradual transition as the drink made its way into the Fanta family in recent months, with packaging and logo changes.

“Some have even hypothesized on social media that Lilt could become part of the Fanta brand, and one even went so far as to produce his own newscast-style video.”

The company’s UK vice-president for commercial development insisted the drink was the same, just with a new name.

Martin Attock said: “Our main priority with this announcement is to reassure the loyal fan base of Lilt that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to the iconic taste of the drink they know and love.

“It’s still bursting with spicy tropical flavors, it just got a new name.”
