Oregon’s Noah Sewell celebrates a play in 2021.

The Detroit Lions already have a bunch of brothers on their team, and if fate has a say, maybe it’s just the beginning for the future lineup.

As the Lions prepare to tackle the 2022 season, the focus will once again turn to football, while off-season issues such as the draft will be firmly placed on a write-after basis. Before that happened, however, another cool idea was presented by a new mock draft.

Recently, Pro Football Network and Cam Mellor put together a mock draft for 2023. Perhaps amazingly, the Lions had a pair of the top 10 picks in one scenario. can only be described as a dream. With the first pick in third place overall, the team landed Alabama racer Will Anderson. Then, with the eighth overall pick, the team doubled the lead against Noah Sewell.

“With the Lions’ second first pick, Detroit fans are picking Noah Sewell from Oregon the highest among non-midfielders. After Stroud (or Young in other cases), the Lions are securing a second level of defense with Sewell’s pick. Sewell is the younger brother of fellow first-rounder Penei Sewell and may even have the same high ceilings as his brother. He was like instinct when they came and played with tremendous power through everything he did,” Mellor wrote in the piece.

If the name is familiar, this is indeed a hit from the Lions’ brother Penei Sewell, which would be an intriguing potential addition to Detroit because of the connection the duo share. It’s also intriguing considering the chance that both of Detroit in 2023 pick land in the top 10. That would be a boon for the Lions’ reconstruction.

Combined with Aidan Hutchinson and Josh Paschal, if the Lions add a lot of firepower to their defensive front, it will have to be seen as a big win for the team. Although the team didn’t add an early signal caller in this situation, they did strengthen their defense in the best possible way with an elite pair of midfield.

This sham could make the Detroit defense one of the most intimidating young groups in the league.

Sewell’s Career Stats & Highlights

While his brother played an important role in the offensive sides of the Oregon Ducks, young Sewell made his mark on the defense making life difficult in the face of offenses. So far in his career heading into the 2022 collegiate season, Sewell has made a total of 162 tackles, 6 misses and 6 nets. Sewell also had a reliable interception of him along with 3 fumbles and 5 blocked passes. Here’s a look at his work:

If the Lions take out Sewell, it will be a quality connection for their team with his brother on the roster. This connection can prove a strong bond for Lions, who may use it as a defense.

Lions’ current 2023 NFL draft outlook

As for what the Lions can do next year, the team thinks it’s very open. Detroit has many defensive needs, and most people feel as though the team has the greatest need at full-back and perhaps safety.

On defense, the Lions may need some defenders, which could be the position the team chooses to upgrade early. Despite Detroit’s well-documented need for midfield, Jared Goff can always start in solid form into 2022. Wide wing depth and attacking line may also be considered.

The addition of a player like Sewell to Detroit’s defence could provide another big boost to the team’s incredible passing speed. Given his natural connection to his brother, this could be a match to watch for the whole team.
