The Detroit Lion are pushing for the end of the 2021 season, and as they do, the focus will shift to what happens to the first pick in the draft.

With just a single win, the Lions seem ready to be the last one out of the top three. Of course, however, they want it all and want to make sure that all the pain of loss in the 2021 season at least pays off with the top pick in the draft.

At this point, they were close to making that dream come true. Through Week 14, the Lions are still in a high position for the first pick and are still half a match ahead of their opponents. They also maintain a good pick at 24 courtesy of Los Angeles.

If there’s bad news, it’s that in recent weeks, the Lions haven’t received any extra help to get to the top. The Lions have consistently lost, but so have some of the teams around them. Going forward, the team will have to hope that they can get some more wins among their direct pursuers.

Lions try to hold back many bad teams

Can the Lions hold their ground in the top pick? The team will play against multiple teams for the first pick, but most notably the likes of the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars. Both teams are struggling, with the Texans presumably going to be shattered for the season for the rest of the run and Jaguar having consistency issues as well as potential locker room drama.

In terms of schedule, the Lions might have the best chance of losing, given the fact that the Texas and Jaguars will play against each other this week, guaranteeing one of three wins. Elsewhere, the Lions will need to keep an eye on the lurking New York Jets, who have had three wins but aren’t as good this season despite a few nasty wins.

Obviously, the best bet for the Lion? Continue to lose, no matter how painful the fans feel.

Lions have a lot of demand in the 2022 NFL draft

If the Lions manage to secure a top pick in the draft like most hope they can, there’s a multitude of ways they can choose to choose based on the unique needs of the list. The team’s defence needs attacking players up front to rush the passer along the defence, and may also need depth at full-back at full-back. Annoyingly, the Lions mostly need a long time to catch the ball wide to help them hit the offensive phase. As always, full-back will be worth watching near the top of the draft, especially considering Jared Goff’s early struggles with the Lions in 2021.

Good news for Detroit? They also have first choice of Los Angeles Rams thanks to Matthew Stafford trading for this year and next, and looking to win multiple offset picks for 2022, so some serious problems could befall the roster if the team manages to secure a selection top overall. Obviously, the team needs to reflect on all of its options for the coming year.

First, the first thing revolves around securing a choice, which Leos hope they’ll accomplish sooner rather than later.
