Liverpool are set to hold talks with a £10m defender this summer

The Liverpool Echo Claim Liverpool are set to hold talks with Neco Williams over his future this summer. His form in the Championship with newly promoted Fulham has convinced Liverpool there is no rush to sell him.

After playing just eight games for Liverpool in the first half of the season, Wales international Williams – who already has an impressive 18 caps for his country – joined Fulham in the summer.

He has been playing for Marco Silva’s side ever since. Valued at £10 million (echo), Williams has played 14 times for Fulham – 13 times in the league, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He was crucial for the rise.

The Echo report that Liverpool were ready to monetize Williams but the defender’s form at Fulham has seen Liverpool take a U-turn. They are now ready to keep him and will hold talks over the summer about his future.

Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Williams – on Liverpool’s website say Williams “trains like a machine”.

Liverpool talks to Williams: should they keep Welsh defender?

It may not be so much up to Liverpool. Williams has now tasted first-team football and with a potential appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar should Wales get there, he will want to be fit.

So he needs to play regularly and if he can’t promise that at Liverpool – easily first choice with Trent Alexander-Arnold – he should leave. A move back to Fulham would be perfect after promotion.
