Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to take action and sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez after his striking performance at Anfield on Wednesday night. The striker scored one goal and two others were disallowed for offside.
The 22-year-old Nunez has been on fire this season and has scored 32 goals this season. Still incredibly young, a move to the Premier League is becoming increasingly likely. Liverpool are said to be among those interested.
Melissa Reddy recently told Sky Sports that the Reds have a long-term interest in the Uruguay international. Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson even praised Nunez this week, saying the striker is both “strong” and “fast”.
Jorge Mendes is said to have been in talks over the possibility of Nunez replacing Harry Kane at Tottenham – during 90Min say he is valued at £65million. Now Enrique has urged his old side to strike a deal for the forward.
Enrique on Nunez: Liverpool striker would be the end of Firmino…
Like Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino is also about to enter the last 12 months of his contract. The Brazilian scored twice in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw – Liverpool eventually went on 6-4 on aggregate.
But after seven years at Liverpool and 322 appearances, Firmino will turn 31 in October and Liverpool may feel it’s time for a change. There is no point in giving a new deal to a player who is about to deteriorate.
Instead, selling it for a decent fee this summer could be a better alternative. Many clubs would like to sign Firmino. His fee could add to the cost Liverpool would have to part with for Nunez.
