Lizzo bangs on the latest cover of ‘ELLE UK’ and talks about her new album, her love life and doesn’t think she could make it in music because of her looks

Lizzo is making her press rounds following the release of her brand new album ‘Special’ – and her latest includes a beautiful cover shoot and interview with ELLE UK magazine. While she talks about her music, love life and several business ventures in the interview, one of the most touching aspects when she spoke about it was that she didn’t feel beautiful or worthy of not even being in the music industry.

Talk about feel unseen Growing up believing that her music wasn’t taken seriously because of her looks, Lizzo said, “Sure, there were women like Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah. But they were the exception to the rule. And so I always felt that even if the song was great, people wouldn’t want to hear it from me. So I figured if I have other people on stage as well, it will distract me a bit. I know people want to look like me now. But I’m talking about how it was in my formative years. I wasn’t really set up to believe that I was desirable. To me, being a pop star means that people either want to be you or they want to be with you. And I didn’t feel like I had any of those qualities.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Lizzo detailed the vibe her fans can expect from her new album. “I had to remind myself that when we come out of lockdown, people will come out of depression. And the end of the lockdown doesn’t mean the end of her mental health problems. So I wanted to make music that people can use as a soundtrack to survive. That was the drive for this album.”

Explaining the meaning behind her album, Lizzo also said, “All of these incredible songs give people the language to express themselves and to have a release after everything they’ve been through. I’ve been embarrassed for years. It took me a lot of work to feel worthy of being in this place. To feel worthy of being a force to be reckoned with.”
