If you follow Lizzo on TikTok or have had the privilege of having her videos show up on your FYP, you know that the musician just declared in a casual TikTok video that “this is my season and I’m about to be everywhere.” A week later, the Grammy-winning singer announced the launch of her new line of shapewear, titled Yitty. With the launch of Lizzo’s Yitty Shapewear, not only will it be everywhere, it will be worn by everyone.

Yitty is a line of shapewear that can be worn as underwear, outerwear, anywhere. In Lizzo’s words, Yitty is made for “EVERYONE. BODY. ZEITRAUM.” Lizzo is known for being open on social media about body image and confidence — a role she was de facto assigned as a plus-sized musician — a result of the music industry’s predominantly thin skin. She has the label and the responsibility on herself documented the good and bad days of body positivity and used their platform to advocate for change in the industry. So far it’s working. In one day, Yitty’s Instagram account has garnered over 171,000 followers and counting.

“I’ve been in shapewear since I was 12… and it hasn’t been the best experience for me. It was actually a gateway to not liking my body and not liking myself and not feeling normal,” Lizzo says in a Storytime TikTok video about the brand’s creation. “As I turned to fashion, I began to find joy in creating shapes and having autonomy in my sexuality.”

Yitty is the next step in Lizzos’ progression. While Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS line gives fans a chance to embrace an aesthetic, Lizzos’ Yitty line gives people a chance to proudly wear a piece of the singer’s famed confidence. Yitty will be available in a wide range of neutral and bright colors and, more importantly, sizes. The brand has a size range from 6X to XS — a wider range than Kardashian’s shapewear line, which goes up to 4X.

When a fan commented on Lizzo’s release announcement, noting that the size range was from largest to smallest instead of the other way around, Lizzo responded, saying that “there are no coincidences here, boo”.

Before launching the brand, Lizzo was given the hashtag #biggrrrls, which was trending on TikTok through dance videos (she’s a jack of all trades) — the hashtag coincides with Lizzo’s reality competition dance show Big Grrls. The show documents Lizzo’s search for oversized backup dancers for her upcoming world tour (yes, Lizzo’s pretty busy). Her announcement of the launch of Yitty was a love letter to everyone who considers themselves part of the #biggrrrls category. I predict Yitty will be worn on stage and around the world – and it certainly won’t be a coincidence.

You can take on Lizzo, coincidence or not, starting April 12th when Yitty officially launches with three collections: Major Label, Mesh Me and Nearly Naked. The collections include bras, lingerie, bodysuits and matching sets available in sizes 6X-XS – whatever the occasion you’re shopping for, Lizzo has you covered. Well, as overcast as you want to be.
