Local lawmakers and activists are gathering in Wilmington, Delaware to propose a major domain bill

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Several lawmakers and community activists in Delaware spoke Tuesday on a proposal on significant domains.

“It has a long history of disproportionately impacting low-income African-American communities,” said Jennifer Hopkins, president of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League.

The group fears the city will unfairly target these low-income communities.

The bill allows the City of Wilmington to acquire vacant or abandoned lots through significant domains and use them for community development.

Action News spoke to Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki, who says it will not do so unilaterally because the city council and courts must approve any action.
