Louisville gunman fires into parking lot; 2 dead, 4 wounded

An unidentified suspect fired a gun at a crowd of hundreds of people at a park in Kentucky Saturday night, killing two people and injuring four, police said.

Police were called to Chickasaw Park in Louisville around 9 p.m., authorities said.

“Hundreds of people were in the park at the time of the shooting when someone started shooting into the crowd, hitting at least six people,” said Paul Humphrey, deputy police chief for the Louisville Metro Police Department.

No suspects were in custody immediately after the shooting, and police asked anyone with information to contact investigators.

“Right now we don’t have any witnesses,” Humphrey said.

“This has been an unspeakable week of tragedy for our city,” Mayor Craig Greenberg said at the scene Saturday night, referring to a shooting Monday in which a gunman killed five Louisville bank employees while live-streaming the attack on Instagram.

“On Monday we lost five of our fellow citizens to a horrific act of gun violence in the workplace,” Greenberg said. “And now, five days later, we find ourselves in yet another scene of reckless gun violence.”
