Maci Bookout gives an update on Bentley’s relationship with Ryan Edwards in Teen Mom: Next Chapter

At the Teen Mom: Next Chapter reunion, Maci Bookout gave fans an update on her son Bentley’s relationship with his father Ryan Edwards

Maci and her husband, Taylor McKinney, sat down with host Dr. Drew Pinsky and revealed that Bentley doesn’t see his father very often these days.

“Is Bentley going to Ryan?” asked Dr. drew

Maci and Taylor shook their heads with “No” and demanded that Dr. Drew on to ask, “Is Ryan in his life?”

Responding to the question, Taylor told the host that sometimes Ryan will be at his parents’ house while Bentley is there, but that seemed to be the extent of the communication.

Bentley later joined his parents on stage, where Dr. Drew Bentley asked about his relationship with his father.

“Do you see your father Ryan – do you see him very often?” asked Dr. drew

Bentley shook his head. “No.”


Maci says it’s a “huge relief” Ryan is no longer on Teen Mom

Over the years, fans have watched as Maci struggled to maintain a co-parenting relationship with her ex, largely due to his struggles with addictions.

In a September 2022 Interview with Page SixMaci has been open about her relationship with Ryan, revealing that she was “relieved” that he was no longer filming Teen Mom.

“I think being on TV and doing this show wasn’t the main reason why our relationship was always so toxic,” she told the outlet. “There was no way we could make room or space for us to heal or move on or get over some things because we have to be constantly talking about each other when we’re not even talking to each other.”

“So yes, it’s safe to say it’s a huge relief [that he’s not on the show],” she added.

The 16 and Pregnant graduate told the outlet that she’s not currently in a relationship with Ryan, revealing that she doesn’t even have his phone number.

“We don’t speak to each other. I don’t have his phone number. We don’t see each other,” she told the publication. “So it got to a point where it didn’t feel very authentic because I had never really become parents with him. I was only ever raised with his parents.”


Bentley talks about therapy

Teen Mom fans know that Maci’s son Bentley has been seeing a therapist for quite some time.

in a (n October 2021 Interview with E! newsMaci opened up about her decision to talk about Bentley’s therapy visits on Teen Mom.

“We talked about it before we started filming,” she told the outlet. “We asked if it was something he would even film and discuss on camera, and I even asked if he was interested in Taylor and I discussing it on camera. Pretty much from the start he was ready to do it. The producer and I made it very clear that anytime he doesn’t want to talk about it, he can just say the word.”

Maci said Bentley wanted to “normalize” therapy for children of all ages and share his experiences.

“He made a couple of comments during the discussion about wanting kids to know that it’s normal and that it’s perfectly okay to see a counselor or therapist,” she said. “He said if you see me on the show and you think I’m cool because I’m on TV, then maybe I can normalize that for you.”

At the Teen Mom: Next Chapter reunion, Bentley spoke to Dr. Drew on his experience with therapy.

Explaining how the therapy is making him feel, he told the host, “You feel relaxed, it feels like the weight has come off your shoulders and stuff.”
