MAFS UK star April Banbury admits she has been “struggling” after revealing she needed therapy

MAFS UK star April Banbury has admitted she’s been “struggling” lately following her stint on the hit show.

During an Instagram open Q&A with fans on Tuesday, April 33, a follower asked her how she was doing.

It comes after the former Miss Great Britain said she needed therapy following her time on the show and after her ‘ex-husband’ George Roberts was arrested on suspicion of controlling and compulsive behaviour.

‘How are you, are you okay?’ a follower asked the MAFS bride.

“The honest answer is I wasn’t there, there are days I really struggle but I put on a smile and try to get through the day as best as I can,” April explained.

“I don’t want to be influenced so negatively that I lose sight of myself.”

“Hopefully I can show others that there is strength in you”: April said she hopes to inspire and help others who may be struggling

April said she hopes to inspire and help others who may be struggling.

“And if I can continue to be strong and get through things, hopefully I can show others that there is a strength within you that will allow you to come out on the other side,” she said.

Over the weekend, April revealed she needed therapy after appearing on the show.

The former Miss Great Britain, 33, said the “traumas” she is now experiencing “ruined her life” and claimed the show needed to do more background checks on contestants.

Her on-screen husband George Roberts was arrested last week on suspicion of controlling and coercing behavior, the couple are no longer in a relationship.

His appearance on the E4 show came despite three women who had previous relationships with Mr Roberts reportedly raised concerns about him. Others should now have reported.

April now told The Sun: “The trauma I have from being married at first sight is ruining my life.

“I was given six therapy sessions and basically told to try to move on. People say Love Island is brutal, but MAFS is 100 percent worse.

“No one should apply to participate until more stringent background checks are in place.”

“I’m just trying to get through each day. If I slip into this dark hole, I don’t think I’ll ever get out.’

A Channel 4 spokesman said: “It is categorically wrong to suggest that April was asked to speak out against her will, nor would we seek to silence her.

“All cast members have access to appropriate support, including access to an independent psychologist, before, during and after filming and broadcast.

“This support is offered proactively at each stage and, if desired, on an ongoing basis. April has been offered and continues to draw on such support.

“All cast members undergo thorough background and psychological checks, including the most rigorous police checks a production can undertake.”

George, 40, and April wed in a non-legal ceremony after first meeting at the aisle on the hit E4 show.

April recently returned to her £750,000 flat in south London – without “husband” George.

Before breaking news of his arrest, MailOnline exclusively revealed that April is in therapy following the end of her marriage to the divorced father of four.

E4 is still broadcasting the taped show with him and his TV wife April after he was arrested.

Father of four, Roberts, a financial adviser, denies any wrongdoing and has been released on bail by Scotland Yard.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A 40-year-old man was arrested in Worcestershire on Thursday 29 September on suspicion of checking and coercive behaviour. He was taken to a police station and released on bail pending further investigation.’

Meanwhile, viewers of last Tuesday’s episode of Married At First Sight UK saw April continue to express her concerns about her husband’s “trust issues” while claiming he could be “the one”.

The former Miss GB took George to London during homestay week on the show, where they met up with April’s best friend Jose.

While out for a few drinks, April told her pal: “It’s been a massive roller coaster ride, it’s been a journey I thought I’d never continue. It wasn’t easy to sail. I got a glimpse of George’s life as it was, it’s peaceful, very different. We have very different lives. I think we have to see that if we can integrate together.

Speaking alone to the camera, Jose said: “The April that I know, I don’t think she wants to go to the country, she still has a lot to achieve in the city.”

“In terms of compromises, I don’t want April to do all the work. He also needs to add a little compromise. How ok, the kids are very important in my life, but so are you.’

April told him: “My main concern is the fact that he hasn’t trusted me all this time and I haven’t done anything to make him not trust me.

“Things have happened, things have been said and I felt like I had to defend myself all the time to the point where I don’t know what to do to make him believe that I would never do that .”

Jose replied, “That’s George’s problem, it’s not your problem. He’s the one who needs to find a solution to his trust issues.

Speaking alone to the camera, April said: “My biggest concern that I have expressed to Jose is that George has trust issues.

“I hope he can get over it because I want to see a future with him and that’s the only thing I see to prevent that. That’s the biggest thing going forward.’

“I really hope he can get there without sabotaging something that can be so amazing. I stand by that. I guess only time will tell.”

While George was in the bathroom, Jose asked April, “Do you think George is the one?”

April replied: “I don’t know, I think George might be the one. I literally adore George, the feelings I have towards him are unlike any feeling I’ve ever had towards anyone in the past.

Over the weekend, April hinted that the relationship was over. A source close to April told The Sun that she is “having a very difficult time” and “never wants to see him again”.

A source from the show said they were unaware of the allegations against George before he married April on the TV show.

But one of his ex-girlfriends claimed otherwise. “I am so shocked to see that he has been given a platform on a TV show. I wrote to Married at First Sight. I said I reported him to the police,” she told The Sun.
