Man City inspired by £30m Leeds target to loan prodigy

Manchester City have reportedly taken inspiration from the development of the Wolves midfielder, reporting that Leeds United were targeting Morgan Gibbs-White at Sheffield United last season before James McAtee signed for the Blades on loan.

According to Athleticthe Premier League champions have been bombarded with loan requests for their academy prodigy, but Sheffield United’s proposal caught City’s attention in large part to England youth international Gibbs-White’s incredible development at the Blades last season.

The midfielder signed for the Championship side and quickly became one of their best players as Sheffield United made it through to the play-offs, with the likes of Leeds and Everton now keen to sign Gibbs-White, who is reportedly with is just about valued at £30 million.

And that incredible development has prompted City to loan McAtee to the Blades on loan, with Sheffield United set to loan the talented midfielder out for the season to beat dozens of Premier League sides, as well as many clubs in the Championship and abroad, for the 19-year-old.

McAtee is widely regarded as the next big thing to come from City academy after Phil Foden, with the midfielder making a handful of substitute appearances for Pep Guardiola last season and although the youngster was keen to stay at Manchester, the 19-year-old was old was apparently tricked into signing for Sheffield United.

Indeed, the Yorkshire side are in for a big season, having almost won promotion last year, and after Gibbs-White’s incredible influence at Sheffield United, McAtee could have a similar success story if the City talent finds his way to the Bramall Lane takes off.

McAtee’s desire to stay at City for the season was understandable as the midfielder appears confident of success in the Premier League. However, a move to the league is arguably the right decision for the youngster at this stage in his career Signing for Sheffield United is a great move for the teenager.

After all, the Blades are one of the biggest clubs in the second division to have a real chance of regaining promotion to the Premier League this season and with McAtee set to replace Gibbs-White’s role last season, the City talent could take advantage of it benefiting a breakthrough year in the championship with the side of Paul Heckingbottom.
