The fight began after two men collided and one dropped his phone on train tracks

The other man refused to retrieve it, prompting the two to fight. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Heriberto Quintana, ended up on the tracks as a train pulled into the station.

Quintana was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he died, police said.

The other man involved in the brawl, described as a 50-year-old man, was taken into police custody.

Authorities are now reviewing surveillance footage to determine if the suspect pushed Quintana off the platform or if he fell alone.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday.

Quintana’s death triggered massive delays on the E/F/M/R lines and into Queens. The Long Island Rail Road eventually caught up on some of the slack, honoring MetroCard holders in both directions.

Quintana’s death is the ninth in the New York City subway system in 2022, the fifth in the past two weeks

The incident was the ninth death in the subway system this year and the fifth in the transit system in the past two weeks.

A teenager was shot and killed on a moving train in Far Rockaway on Friday.

Meanwhile, three other people have been stabbed since September 30, two in subway attacks and a third on a city bus.

A man was pushed onto the train tracks in the Bronx on Saturday (October 15), with police saying the attack was unprovoked. Surveillance video released the next day shows the unidentified attacker approaching the man before pushing him onto the tracks ahead of the arrival of an arriving 6 train, according to the outlet.

The man in that incident luckily survived after a group of Good Samaritans helped him get off the tracks and back onto the platform. The suspect in this case has yet to be caught.
