“I think the owners certainly trust me and Mark (Allen, sporting director) and Julian’s (Winter, general manager) judgment of what a player is worth,” said the former Rangers, Norwich and Scotland defender.

“I don’t think anyone will go cheap. It’s not going to be, ‘If some money comes in, it’s a good win’.”

When asked specifically about Piroe, Martin insists the Dutchman’s importance to Swansea’s cause has not gone unnoticed in the Liberty City boardroom.

“(The owners) understand how important he is to us. They understand some of the guys how important they are,” adds the former MK Dons boss.

“No one is coerced or pushed into anything. We had no offers for him and no talks about him.

“All I know is that if someone leaves the building, we’re going to make sure that it’s worth it for us and that we can find the next one.”
