Newcastle United target Goncalo Inacio wants to move to the Premier League – but Sporting give Manchester United the first option instead.
The Sunday Mirror reports (08/05, p. 72), since there is said to be a real fight for Inacio’s signature this summer.
It is said Newcastle tried to sign Inacio in January but Sporting repelled them.
However, Newcastle still want Inacio and Sporting are now ready to sell for around £40m this summer.
AC Milan are ecstatic but a source close to Inacio has reportedly clarified that the centre-back prefers a one over the Premier League.
That’s great news for Newcastle, isn’t it?
Well maybe not. This report claims Sporting have a close relationship with Manchester Untied – most likely due to their 2020 deal with Bruno Fernandes.
As a result, United are now given the first option for Inacio, despite Newcastle’s ‘more intense’ interest as of today.
United could be looking to retool their team this summer and adding a left centre-back should be a focus.
Even if Erik ten Hag can bring Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire together, United might still need a left centre-back.
Left-footed defenders like Lisandro Martinez and Daley Blind have been key to Ten Hag’s build-up at Ajax, so Inacio could also come into play.
United must now decide how keen they are to sign Inacio as it looks like a deal needs to be struck.
Newcastle, of course, hope United look elsewhere when it comes to pairing Inacio with Dan Burn at St James’ Park.
That would be two left-footed centre-backs playing together, which we don’t see often but Eddie Howe could try to pull off.
