Manchester United are planning a £32m move for a South American gem but he is keen to join Liverpool

Brazil news outlet believe Manchester United have tracked down the 21-year-old on numerous occasions, but the man himself has now said he would love to join Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

In fact, Gomes has revealed he has the “greatest desire” to join the Reds.

As quoted by ESPN Brazil, the South American prodigy said: “Liverpool are a side I would play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

That will interest Liverpool fans now, especially as Gomes is a central midfielder.

Klopp has few options at the moment after losing Thiago to a serious hamstring injury that has reportedly forced the German to switch for Sporting Lisbon maestro Matheus Nunes.

However, if a move for the Portugal international fails, it’s worth considering Gomes’ request.

Liverpool could embarrass Manchester United

In our opinion, it would be quite embarrassing for Manchester United to scout Gomes for a long time just for him to join Liverpool.

In truth, by the time he eventually makes the move to Old Trafford, his comments will have already done damage – football fans have long-lasting memories and they will surely remember his desire to play for their bitter rival.

We don’t think Gomes is what Liverpool need at the moment, although his comments should be taken into account should he continue to make good progress in Brazil.

With options lacking in midfield, Klopp needs a finished player rather than a diamond in the rough like Gomes who needs polishing by bringing him to life in the Premier League.

Whatever happens, it’s good for Liverpool to see one of South America’s biggest talents speak so openly about his desire to join them – who knows what other future stars will feel the same way.
