Manchester United ready to pay £68m Liverpool target is £395k-a-week

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are both interested in signing Frenkie de Jong and it seems the Red Devils are really stepping up their efforts to secure the Barcelona midfielder’s services.

Sports reported in February 2022 that Liverpool are keen to sign De Jong from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

However, it now appears that Liverpool’s bitter rivals Manchester United are really desperate for him.

We reported on a report by Oriol Domenech on Saturday claimed new United manager Erik ten Hag was on the phone with fellow Dutchman De Jong.

And now The day star report that United are ready to make the Netherlands international the club’s highest-paid player.

The Red Devils are reportedly ready to pay £395,000 a week in wages to De Jong, who is available for €80m (£68m), according to the journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool were not expected to match Frenkie de Jong’s Manchester United offer

In our opinion, Liverpool shouldn’t match Manchester United’s salary offer to Frenkie de Jong.

It’s just too much.

Liverpool have a specific salary structure and there’s no point in breaking it for a 25-year-old midfielder who hasn’t had the best of times since joining Barcelona from Ajax in 2019.

Of course we know that De Jong is a very good player who is only 25 years old.

We also think the midfielder would do better for Liverpool in the middle of the park.

However, we don’t think Liverpool should be paying almost £400,000-a-week to De Jong.

In other news, report: Arsenal have asked about the signing of a player who has a ‘fantastic career ahead’.
