Well Sadio Mane leaving Liverpool is looking better by the day.

On Friday, speaking ahead of an international clash with Senegal, Mane gave a strong indication he would leave the Reds this summer.

After the Champions League final defeat, Mane is reported to have told Liverpool he wants to leave, which stunned Fenway Sports Group.

In Germany, Sport 1 have reported that “lack of financial appreciation” is the main reason for his desire to leave Anfield.

But mane needs to look at what Gini Wijnaldum posted Twitter in the last 24 hours before making a specific decision.

Wijnaldum left Liverpool last summer after failing to get the wages he wanted to secure on Merseyside and Jurgen Klopp lost him to a Bosman.

He joined Paris Saint-Germain – who later signed Lionel Messi – and it seemed like the move would be perfect for the Netherlands international.

Trouble is, it wasn’t.

The 31-year-old failed to establish himself as a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s top midfield last season, causing him to lose his place in Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad.

While the Dutch beat Belgium 4-1 last night, Wijnaldum released photos from his holiday that adequately sum up his decline since leaving Liverpool.

If he had stayed, he probably had been involved in this emphatic victory.

No one is saying Sadio Mane’s departure from Liverpool will lead to the same kind of disgrace.

But one wonders if Wijnaldum would have settled for FSG’s offer as part of their contract extension last summer instead of making the move to Paris Saint-Germain if he had known how much it would impact his career.

Mane will get more money if he leaves Anfield because Real Madrid or Bayern Munich will both pay him well but the grass isn’t greener on the other side despite the financial gain and if the former Southampton Livewire needs to be reminded, he just has to check out Wijnaldum’s social media activity.
