Marc Guehi has explained that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane excelled in England training.
The Crystal Palace defender, who was called up by his country for the first time this week, shared that “every time” Kane shoots in training, the ball lands at the back of the net. as he told England’s official YouTube channel.
While Guehi would have faced Kane on the home stage, he now sees the Three Lions captain face-to-face.
As well as some training sessions, Guehi played alongside the 28-year-old in England’s 2-1 win over Switzerland in a friendly at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
When asked about the best player in training, the ball-playing centre-back who came through at Chelsea gave Kane’s name.
“Everyone is fine,” Guehi said. “But in particular I would say Harry Kane. Even from training earlier, the ball only goes into the net.
“It felt like he was going in every time he took a shot. But that’s the level he’s at.”
Guehi is fast becoming one of the best defenders in the Premier League and a player who thrives on the big stage.
The 21-year-old plays for an ever-improving Crystal Palace side who have changed their playing style under Patrick Vieira and are preparing for an FA Cup semi-final game against Chelsea.
The fact that Palace had called up Guehi, Conor Gallagher and Tyrick Mitchell in the latest England squad speaks volumes about their progress.
Gallagher has been part of Southgate’s line-up before and is hoping to secure that all-important World Cup ticket to Qatar in November.
While Guehi has a fight ahead of him, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be picked if he continues to produce the goods as it doesn’t seem like players are thriving in this centre-back slot.
