On February 13, 2023, Episode of their health and wellness podcast “Heal Squad” Sharing the details of her IVF journey, Menounos was candid in sharing the details of hiring a surrogate and where she and Undergaro stand as they await the birth of their first child.

Here’s what you need to know:

Maria Menounos thought she was going to have twins

In her podcast, Menounos talked about IVF and three embryos. Two of these were deemed viable and both were implanted.

“I really, really believed we would have two. I spoke to them in my prayers at night and really thought this would work. And twins run in our family, so we were actually worried that the worst-case scenario would be that both of them would share eggs,” Menounos said, admitting that she and Undergaro thought they could have quadruplets.

She continued to recall the first ultrasound after learning the surrogate was pregnant. At the time, Menounos and Undergaro were expecting to receive an update on twins as two embryos were implanted. However, the surrogate texted them and said, “Baby is fine,” and that made Menounos’ heart sink.

“I understood so quickly the pain of so many people in that moment because I was really sure that we would have two,” she continued. Menounos got very emotional and even thought it was possible that the other baby was “hidden”.

Ultimately, Menounos said, “You just have to be thankful for what you have,” and she’s genuinely looking forward to welcoming her baby in the months to come.

Maria Menounos really wanted her mother to be a grandmother

Menounos, who was also discussed in this episode of her podcast, was very excited about the possibility of seeing her mother as a grandmother. She recalled Litsa Menounos’ battle with brain cancer and the hope a new baby brought to the family.

“They’re definitely showing up next year,” she previously said on an episode of Better Together. according to Us Weekly. “I’ll give it to her. It’s happening right now.” Litsa Menounos passed away in May 2021, leaving Maria Menounos and her family heartbroken. She and Undergaro put their baby plans on hold for a while, but eventually turned to friends — Kim Kardashian and Zoe Saldana — to help resume surrogacy process when they were ready.

Menounos made sure to thank both Kardashian and Saldana in an Instagram post which she shared on February 7, 2023 and on her February 13, 2023 podcast expressed a desire to have Kardashian on her show to talk a little more about the journey.
