Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC will add 5 more characters

More racers are coming to the game following the recent addition of Birdo.

If you’re a little tired of racing the same characters every time you play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we’ve got some exciting news for you. According to the game’s latest update with the latest wave of DLC, more racers will follow at a later date.

We know this because five empty character slots have appeared following the addition of Birdo, the newest racer coming with this update. Previously, we didn’t know if new characters would be added to the game along with the courses in each wave of the Booster Course Pass.

Now that Birdo has been added (with nine color options) and five additional slots appear beneath her, we can safely assume that means more characters will be added alongside the rest of the DLC.

Only two waves of the Booster Course Pass remain, both arriving before the end of 2023. These waves will each add eight courses, bringing the total number of DLC courses to 48.

The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass costs $24.99 as a single purchase, but if you subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack you can play the courses at no additional cost.

At this time, we don’t yet know the exact characters that will be added to the game as racers. Like Birdo, they could be characters that have appeared in previous Mario Kart titles. However, there is also a chance that they are brand new characters that have never appeared in a Mario Kart game before, even other Nintendo characters that are not part of the Mario universe.

We’ll have to wait and see more information about the upcoming characters when Nintendo reveals the contents of the next two waves of DLC later this year.
