Hot-tempered Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on Saturday raised calls for a ban on assault weapons following the deadly mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs.
She also labeled the shooter “transgender” after defense attorneys said the suspect used “she/they” pronouns – potentially complicating prosecutors’ push for hate crime charges.
The Georgia Republican ended the Twitter post with a photo of herself crouching over a dead boar, grinning, and armed with an assault rifle.
Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, is accused of killing five people and injuring more than a dozen others after opening fire at Club Q on the night of November 19.
Human rights activists and the LGBTQ community have condemned the shooting as motivated by anti-gay hatred and have accused right-wing voices of fueling it through today’s heated culture war over the rights of transgender youth.
Democrats led by President Joe Biden have renewed calls for a ban on assault weapons in the aftermath of the shooting. Aldrich used an assault weapon and a pistol to carry out his attack, authorities said.
But Greene came out swinging Saturday, calling the AR-15 – a popular semi-automatic rifle – her “favorite” firearm despite being blamed for hundreds of mass shooting deaths across the United States.
The outspoken conservative lawmaker expressed her point with a photo of herself armed with what appears to be an AR-15 standing over a dead pig.
Photos of the victims of the shooting will be displayed at a makeshift memorial outside of Club Q on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in Colorado Springs, Colorado
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene responded to gun control calls after the shooting with a photo of herself, armed, crouching over a dead pig
“The AR-15 is my favorite weapon for hunting and home defense,” Greene wrote on Twitter.
“The ban on ‘assault weapons’ will not prevent a transgender person from shooting their own LGBTQ community or another killer who is already breaking the law to kill people.”
She claimed that “more gun control laws only create more vulnerable victims.”
Greene also lashed out at Biden, calling him a “career politician who’s been in office longer than I’ve lived and he knows NOTHING about guns.”

“Joe is an elite politician who enjoys the protection of AR-15 but wants to take your guns away and leave you defenseless at the mercy of criminals who don’t care about the law,” the congresswoman said.
“I will always protect America’s great Second Amendment! No assault weapons ban!!’
The photo appears to be a still from Greene’s previous campaign to win a hunting trip with her.
Aldrich, the Colorado Springs shooter, is currently being held on homicide and biased felony charges.
Aldrich, formerly known as Nicholas Brink, is the grandchild of a Republican California congressman named Rep. Randy Voepel — who has championed far-right beliefs such as supporting the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
The shooter’s biological father was captured by CBS 8 San Diego responding to news of the mass murder, apparently more concerned that his child might be LGBTQ than they were being accused of the murder.
“I find out it’s a gay bar. I got scared, “Shit, is he gay?” And he’s not gay, so I said, phew,” Aaron Brink told local broadcaster. “I’m a conservative Republican.”
Biden told reporters in Nantucket, where he was spending Thanksgiving, that he would seek an assault weapons ban in the wake of the Colorado Springs shooting and another deadly mass murder in Virginia this month.
“The idea that we still allow the purchase of semi-automatic weapons is sick. Just sick,” said the president during the vacation.
He promised: “I will try to get rid of offensive weapons.”
