Mark Bonner hails ‘a brilliant night’ for Cambridge as they stun Millwall

Mark Bonner praised his Cambridge side after they beat 10-man Millwall 1-0 in the Carabao Cup.
Liam O’Neil scored the winning goal just before an hour for Sky Bet League One side, and Bonner said: “It was a brilliant night for us.
“Without a doubt, it was the most physical match we have ever had.
“Many of the games we’ve played so far in pre-season have been pretty football games, games based on possession, whereas tonight was more of a physical, direct game. for both sides, so it was a real challenge for us. .
“We are very happy with the result and I am also really proud of the performance of the players because of how hard they worked and what minute their time was short.
“Liam really scored his goal after a really good period of play. He’s on the edge of the box and shoots well, so I’m really pleased with his finish.”
Millwall boss Gary Rowett felt his team wasn’t performing well enough when they were knocked out of the competition.
“I am disappointed,” he said. “I gave it to Cambridge, they worked incredibly hard and I can’t argue they didn’t deserve the 1-0 win.
“On nights like this you have to show a little bit of Championship athletic prowess or Championship qualities. We didn’t actually display either of those properties.
“To lose to Tom Bradshaw early in the game is a bit of a loss for us, but then we have to settle down and we have to try to play.
“We just pressed too many long passes. We had to move the balls to the sides and make them work and we didn’t really do that.
“We didn’t show enough quality in the evening and if you don’t do that in places like this you won’t be able to go and win the game.”
