Marsch opens up about the importance of Leeds midfielder Phillips

Jesse Marsch said at the press conference – as Leeds Live – that Kalvin Phillips is ready to play at Crystal Palace. The Leeds star has fully recovered from his hamstring problem and Marsch has praised his performance in training.

Phillips, 26, has not started a game since December 5 when he suffered from the problem in the 2-2 draw with Brentford. He has since come on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Southampton and 30 minutes in the 3-0 win over Watford.

With Leeds last in action more than two weeks ago, Phillips has been focused on overcoming his injury and now he will play Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night. Marsch was asked about him.

Marsch said at his press conference that Phillips was fit and ready to face Palace. He also spoke about the importance of the England midfielder and his Leeds roots – while also praising the number 23 for his performances in training.

“I saw from the start that he had an impact on the group. His Identity and Being Leeds. Push him to keep getting better and to be the best. Great in training. Really good training week. Fully fit and ready,” said Marsch.

March over Phillips: Leeds star could be just what they need in the scrap

He is the heartbeat of the Leeds side. Liam Cooper has returned from injury and has put in an excellent performance in the draw against Southampton and the win against Watford. Hopefully Phillips will follow suit from Leeds’ perspective.

With Adam Forshaw out for the rest of the season after a broken kneecap, Leeds desperately need Phillips to get going. He may just be the final ingredient in Leeds’ hunt for Premier League safety.
