Marvel Snap’s Halloween event is cute but lackluster

It’s scary season in Marvel Snap.

It’s no secret that the events of Marvel Snap have been pretty overwhelming. Even during the beta days, the events didn’t feel rewarding and were usually just glorified leaderboards or cube rush competitions to see who could collect the most cubes in that limited time. Events have gotten a bit better over time, with the Hydra vs. SHIELD event encouraging a more competitive nature between two factions, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.

The new Halloween event is now live in Marvel Snap and will run through November 8th. Just like previous events, accessing this one is oddly obtuse. You still need to click on the What’s New tab and then on the event announcement itself to access the missions and rewards.

This event requires players to complete various missions to earn treats, which can then be used to unlock decorations to spice up a beautiful, spooky setting in the game. Decorations include stickers of Morbius, a pumpkin, a bat and a tombstone. The missions are also pretty much what you would expect – play a certain number of games, play with decks that contain certain cards, and so on and so forth.

Players also get 100 credits for participating in the event, which is nice, but ultimately there’s still very little incentive to actually participate. I’ve long advocated for UI improvements in the mobile app, and I still maintain that events within the app itself need to be more accessible. As it stands, the event is easy to forget as it’s inconveniently accessible and the rewards aren’t all that attractive. These two things make for a rather lackluster event overall, and while they’re certainly a tier above the glorious leaderboards with no participation rewards, we’re hoping to see further improvements over time.
